MUMBAI — War 2, the newest movie in Yash Raj Films’ Spy Universe, had a rather sluggish opening day, but it has since come back very well. The movie, which stars Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, has secured its place as a major box office contender by making over ₹120 crore in its first three days. By 4 PM on Saturday, the film had made a total of ₹121.84 crore in India, according to the industry tracker Sacnilk.
The action-thriller, which also stars Kiara Advani and Ashutosh Rana, made ₹52 crore on its first day, Thursday, August 14. But on Friday, Independence Day, it saw a big increase, with receipts going up 10% to ₹57.35 crore. Even though the Hindi version got mediocre reviews, it witnessed a huge 50% spike on day two. The film has also done well in Telugu-speaking areas, thanks to the presence of South icon Jr. NTR. In the first three days, it made nearly ₹35 crore in that language alone.
The movie’s impressive performance has already topped the lifetime earnings of Salman Khan’s most recent release, Sikandar, which made ₹110 crore in India. War 2 is also doing well around the world, and by the end of Saturday, it is likely to have made more than ₹200 crore in international receipts.
Both Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR have thanked their fans on social media for the huge response they got. Hrithik wrote on Instagram, “Seeing all your cheers and celebrations in movie theaters makes my heart fuller!” In the same way, Jr. NTR thanked his fans by saying, “I see your love for #War2 and I love you back for it…” It’s amazing to see how much the audience supports our movie, which we worked on with a lot of heart. Come on!
