Una, Himachal Pradesh: Police in Himachal Pradesh have launched a probe into indirect death threats made via social media against Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri and Gagret MLA Rakesh Kalia, officials confirmed on Friday.
The threats emerged during a Facebook discussion about the recent arrest of gangster Amrish Rana. A user posted, “The public is demanding the sword again,” to which another user chillingly responded, “This time it will be used on a politician only.” When someone asked which politician, the reply was, “Only the Deputy CM and MLA Rakesh Kalia would know.”
👮 FIR Registered, Accused Detained
A concerned local flagged the conversation and submitted a formal complaint to the Haroli police station on Thursday. Acting swiftly, the police registered an FIR under Section 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to threats to life and public safety.
According to Una SP Amit Yadav, “The threat was made on Facebook. The accused, a resident of Mandi, has been detained and is in police custody. Further investigation is underway.”
🔍 Background & Concerns
While the threat was not directly addressed to the leaders, police are treating the matter seriously, especially in light of recent tensions surrounding criminal networks and political figures. The post linked to Amrish Rana’s arrest raised suspicions of gang-related retaliation or politically motivated hostility.
Authorities have urged the public to refrain from spreading inflammatory content online and assured that any threats—even indirect or suggestive—will be dealt with firmly in the interest of public safety and law enforcement integrity.
The investigation is ongoing.
