Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 7: Defying mixed reviews and moderate pre-release expectations, Housefull 5 made a thunderous entry at the box office, raking in ₹24.35 crore on its opening day.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed the impressive numbers, stating that the Sajid Nadiadwala production pulled in strong footfalls without relying on block bookings, Buy-One-Get-One (BOGO) offers, or holiday hype. “No discounted rates, no free-ticket offers, and yet #Housefull5 posts an impressive Day 1. It gained momentum through the day, especially in evening and night shows. Despite weak advance bookings, current bookings turned the tide,” Adarsh shared on X (formerly Twitter).
Comparing it with previous entries in the franchise, Adarsh noted that Housefull 4 had opened at ₹19.08 crore during the pre-Diwali season. However, Housefull 5, even with a non-holiday and weekday release, now holds the title of the franchise’s biggest opener.
He added, “The weekend trajectory will be crucial. If mass circuits, single screens, and non-national chains respond strongly, the film’s first-week total could soar.”
Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, Housefull 5 boasts a star-studded ensemble including Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Fardeen Khan, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Johny Lever, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Chunky Panday, Dino Morea, Sonam Bajwa, and Soundarya Sharma.
Adding a twist to the format, the fifth instalment in the comedy franchise is said to feature multiple endings, a novelty for Bollywood mainstream entertainers.
