Shahjahanpur: A 22-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her brother in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district after he objected to her speaking with male friends over the phone, police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place in Itora Gotiya village, where the victim, Naina Devi, lived with her family. According to police, her brother Sher Singh confronted her after discovering phone recordings that angered him.
Shahjahanpur SP Rajesh Dwivedi said the accused claimed that Naina often talked to many men on the phone and also rejected several marriage proposals, which further enraged him.
“When she came to retrieve her phone, the accused—already agitated after hearing the recordings—stabbed her on the neck with a sharp-edged weapon in a fit of rage, leading to her death,” SP Dwivedi said.
Sher Singh was arrested on Tuesday night. He has been charged under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and has been sent to judicial custody, officials added.
The investigation is ongoing.
