Home Ministry Instructs Maharashtra To Address Issue Of Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants

New Delhi [India], January 22: The Union Home Ministry has instructed the Maharashtra government to take stringent measures against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants residing in the state. This directive was issued following a letter sent to Maharashtra’s Home Department officials.

The order came after former Shiv Sena MP Rahul Shewale raised concerns about illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, citing a report prepared by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) on the matter.

Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora also urged the government to expedite the deportation of illegal Bangladeshi nationals from the state to enhance security, particularly in Mumbai. Deora expressed his concerns following an incident at actor Saif Ali Khan’s residence, where a Bangladeshi national, Mohd Shariful Islam Shehzad, allegedly attempted theft and injured Khan.

Deora also called for an audit of illegal immigrants across Maharashtra to ensure better security in Mumbai and demanded accountability from agencies responsible for verifying documents before offering employment.

In a related development, three Bangladeshi nationals were sentenced by Mumbai’s Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court after being found guilty of illegal entry and residing in India with forged documents. The ruling came after the Mumbai Police Crime Branch presented substantial evidence against the individuals.
