Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]: The makers of the highly anticipated socio-political drama ‘His Story of Itihaas’ have officially released the trailer of the film and announced a revised theatrical release date — May 30, 2025, rescheduled from the earlier slated date of May 23.
The trailer launch event took place in Delhi, attended by the film’s lead cast including Akanksha Pandey, veteran actor Yogendra Tiku, and debutant director Manpreet Singh Dhami.
Plot and Theme
According to the official synopsis, ‘His Story of Itihaas’ follows the emotional and intellectual journey of Namit, a quiet physics teacher who discovers glaring inaccuracies and ideological slants in his daughter’s school history textbook. What begins as a father’s concern soon becomes a relentless search for historical truth, unraveling layers of bureaucracy, academic gatekeeping, and political interference.
The lead role of Namit is played by Subodh Bhave, who brings intensity and authenticity to the character’s transformation from an ordinary teacher to a truth-seeking crusader.
Inspired by Real Life
Director Manpreet Singh Dhami shared that the story draws from real-life encounters, particularly with individuals like Neeraj Atri, a physics teacher-turned-historical truth activist. Dhami remarked:
“This is not just a story — it’s a question. A question about what we were taught, what we believed, and how it shaped who we are. Four years ago, I was just like any other Indian — unaware and uninterested in historical details. But when I met a teacher who challenged the content of school history books, I began my own journey of unlearning. This film is the result of that awakening.”
Production and Reception
Produced by Panchkarma Films, the movie is gaining early traction online with its thought-provoking trailer, which has been well-received by netizens across platforms. The film promises a powerful mix of personal drama and systemic critique, igniting debate around textbook narratives and historical interpretation in India.
As the theatrical release approaches on May 30, His Story of Itihaas positions itself as one of the most reflective and bold cinematic takes on education, ideology, and identity in recent Indian cinema.
