Hailstorms were observed in Banjar (Kullu), Sundernagar (Mandi), and parts of Shimla, disrupting normal life and reducing temperatures.

Temperature Drops & Relief from Heatwave

The region, which was reeling under heatwave conditions just days ago—especially in Sundernagar, Bhuntar, and Dharamshala—has witnessed a 3–5°C drop in temperature, bringing conditions closer to seasonal averages.

“Thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms are likely in parts of Himachal Pradesh. People are advised to stay indoors during severe weather,” said IMD scientist Sandeep Kumar Sharma.

Outlook for April 12 and Beyond

  • April 12 Forecast:
Thunderstorms expected in Kangra, Mandi, Sirmaur, and Shimla. Temperatures are projected to dip further, staying near seasonal normals.
  • April 13–16 Forecast:
Weather is likely to remain clear across the state, providing a brief respite from the ongoing volatile conditions.

Safety Advisory

The IMD has urged residents, especially in districts under Orange Alert, to avoid outdoor activities during thunderstorm activity and take shelter indoors. Strong winds are also expected to accompany the storm systems.
