Himachal Pradesh Rain Havoc: 5 Dead, Orange Alert Issued For June 29 Amid Flash Flood Threat

Shimla/Kullu/Kangra: Himachal Pradesh is reeling from the impact of relentless monsoon rain, with heavy rainfall, flash floods, and multiple cloudbursts causing widespread destruction across districts like Kullu and Kangra. As of now, five people have died, and five others are reported missing in separate incidents linked to the extreme weather.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Sunday, June 29, warning of more heavy rain, flash floods, and potential landslides in the following districts:

  • Una, Bilaspur, Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Kangra, Chamba, Kullu, and Mandi.

Casualties and Rescue Operations

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu confirmed that three cloudbursts and nine flash flood events have occurred so far. Police and rescue teams have saved over 250 people, but the situation remains precarious.

CM Sukhu has urged caution:

“Tourists are welcome, but must avoid rivers and nallahs during the rains.”

Visuals and Warnings

Dramatic visuals shared by PTI show vehicles being washed away in rising river waters. Authorities have warned of threats to life and property and urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in landslide-prone areas.

IMD Weather Forecast

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across:

  • Himachal Pradesh
  • Uttarakhand
  • Punjab, Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh
The forecast is valid until July 1.

Citizens are urged to track IMD updates regularly and follow safety protocols during this high-risk monsoon period.
