Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has confirmed that Rs 146.34 crore will be invested in constructing underground utility ducts in Shimla. The ducts will run from Chhota Shimla to Willy Park and other parts of the city, ensuring a 24×7 power supply even during heavy snowfall and adverse weather conditions.
Speaking at a meeting of the Public Works Department (PWD) in Shimla on Friday, Sukhu highlighted that the project would improve the city’s infrastructure and aesthetic appeal, restoring Shimla’s old charm and attracting more tourists. He urged officials to complete the project within the designated timeline, noting that it would also help enhance the city’s infrastructure, benefitting both locals and visitors.
“This project will reduce the need for repetitive road digging, as all utilities including water pipelines, electrical lines, and fiber cables will be laid in a single underground duct,” said the CM.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of aligning the project with the ‘Green Himachal’ vision, ensuring that there is minimal disruption to residents during the construction work.
Sukhu also stated that the state government had launched multiple initiatives to attract tourists and improve infrastructure to support this growth.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary KK Pant, Principal Secretary Devesh Kumar, Secretary to the Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar, and senior officers from the Public Works Department.
