At least eight people lost their lives and five were injured after a private bus veered off the road and fell into a deep gorge near Haripurdhar in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district on Thursday. The bus, reportedly traveling from Solan to Haripurdhar, rolled about 200 feet downhill before landing upside down.
Locals rushed to the site to help rescue the passengers, while police and emergency teams launched evacuation and relief operations. Sirmaur Superintendent of Police Nishchit Negi confirmed eight fatalities, warning that the death toll could rise, as the bus carried around 30–35 passengers.
Industry Minister and local MLA Harshwardhan Chauhan said medical teams at Dadahu, Sangrah, and Nahan hospitals were prepared to handle emergencies, while the district administration remained on high alert. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed deep grief over the tragedy, directing authorities to provide full assistance to the families of the deceased and ensure prompt medical care for the injured.
