Kolkata (West Bengal) [India]: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday hailed the 8th Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) 2025, calling it one of the most unique summits ever held in the state. She announced that the summit had received investment proposals worth over ₹90.51 lakh crore, signaling strong industrial interest in Bengal.
Investment and Industry Response
Speaking to the media, Banerjee said,
“This is one of the unique summits, and everyone saw the industry’s response… They were happy and also expressed their views… Investment proposals of over ₹90.51 lakh crore have been received.”
Deucha-Pachami Project to Begin
The CM also revealed that the much-anticipated Deucha-Pachami mining project, Asia’s second-largest coal mine, would commence on Thursday with basalt mining. This marks a significant step in West Bengal’s industrial and resource development.
Summit’s Purpose: Employment & Growth
Banerjee addressed questions on the need for the business summit, emphasizing its role in job creation and economic expansion.
“Some people ask me why I am holding this business summit. I told them that we started it, but now every other state is doing it. So what is wrong with that? We have to encourage our younger and future generations to invest more and create more employment opportunities. Without employment, our young generation will not survive. For them, we have to go ahead. Bengal is one of the safest and smartest investment destinations.”
Mukesh Ambani’s Commitment to Kolkata
The CM also expressed gratitude to business leaders, notably Mukesh Ambani, for their active participation. She acknowledged Ambani’s commitment to making Kolkata a gateway for Jio’s global operations.
“In the coming times, he (Mukesh Ambani) has assured us that Kolkata will be the main business hub for Jio and will be the gateway to connect to the world. I salute you and your family for this gesture.”
With record-breaking investment proposals, strategic projects like Deucha-Pachami, and endorsements from top industrialists, the Bengal Global Business Summit 2025 is poised to strengthen West Bengal’s position as a prime investment destination.
