Sanjeev Kapoor And S Jaishankar Highlight Key Messages At Pravasi Bharatiya Divas In Odisha

Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India]: Celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor praised the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention, calling it a “masterstroke” in uniting the Indian diaspora. The convention, held from January 8 to 10 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, celebrates the contributions of Indians living abroad under the theme “Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat.”

Speaking at the event, Kapoor lauded the Indian diaspora’s role in India’s progress. “Thirty-five million Indian diaspora bringing India together and taking India forward is a partnership made in heaven. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is a masterstroke. I request all people of Indian origin staying outside India: ‘India sits in your hearts, make your heart grow,'” he said.

The three-day event, organized in partnership with the Odisha State Government, has drawn over 3,000 delegates from 70 countries. The formal inauguration will be conducted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 9 at 10:00 am.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also addressed the convention, emphasizing the critical role of India’s younger generation in shaping global developments. Reflecting on Prime Minister Modi’s connection with the youth, Jaishankar recounted a comment by Indian badminton star P.V. Sindhu, who described the Prime Minister as a youth icon.

Jaishankar quoted Sindhu: “I still recall some time ago an observation by a famous Indian badminton player, P.V. Sindhu, on why PM Modi is a youth icon. She summed it up as his attitude which moved the nation from ‘chalta hai’ to ‘badal sakta hai’ to ‘hoga kaise nahi.’”

Highlighting the younger generation’s contributions to fields like artificial intelligence (AI), electric vehicles (EVs), startups, and sports, Jaishankar said, “At a time when so many key developments in the world are being shaped by the younger generations—whether we talk of AI or EV, innovation or startups, cricket, chess, or any sports—at home, we have just started our journey of Viksit Bharat in the Amrit Kaal.”

He added, “While development itself is a very complex task, it becomes easier when we are confident that nothing is beyond us.”

The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention continues to provide a platform for the Indian diaspora to engage with the country’s development goals and foster connections with their homeland.
