Heroic Rescue As Fire Rages Through Rajya Sabha MPs’ Apartment Complex In Delhi

When a big fire broke out at the Brahmaputra Apartments in Delhi, which is a housing complex for Rajya Sabha MPs, 20-year-old resident Pawan Kumar was terrified and couldn’t believe what was happening. On Saturday afternoon, the flats near Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital became the site of a desperate emergency.

Pawan, who lives on the third floor with his family, ran home right away when he heard about the huge fire. He was more worried about the safety of his two younger sisters and the family’s dog, who were inside the flat when the fire started.

“My room on the third floor was fine, but the floors below were filled with smoke and flames,” Pawan told the news agency media. “I was worried about my two sisters and my dog at home.”

Dog and Family Escapes Firefighters saved them

The fire occurred at about 1:10 PM on Saturday, and Pawan’s two younger sisters, who are 13 and 18, were home at the time.

Pawan verified that “they got minor burns while running down the stairs.” The girls were rescued, but the family’s dog was still stuck inside. “Our dog was stuck inside, but the fire department was able to get him out.” “We are so lucky,” he murmured, letting out a sigh of relief.

Pawan’s family has been in the apartment for eight months. His father works for the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), his mother is a stay-at-home mom, and they have a housekeeper.

Allegations of negligence and the spread of the fire

The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) say that the fire started in the stilt parking area of the Brahmaputra Apartments, where it was said that old furniture and wooden things were kept. People in the area have blamed the CPWD for being careless and for ignoring multiple concerns about the furniture that was left there.

Pawan Kumar said, “The fire started in the pile of old sofas and wood that we had asked them to get rid of many times.”

The fire spread quickly because there was so much flammable debris. The open architecture of the parking lot made it easy for flames to spread quickly, which damaged the first floor and burned the outer walls of the upper levels. The apartments on the third floor, on the other hand, were mostly unharmed.

Fourteen fire trucks were sent to the project, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened in 2020. Around 2:10 PM, the fire was put out.

Pawan said that a big disaster was nearly avoided because most people were not home at the time. He warned, “If this had happened at night when the building was full, it could have been a disaster.”

Devesh Kumar Mahla, the DCP of New Delhi, informed media that no one died, but several individuals did get small cuts. “Fire broke out in several sofas and mattresses that were left in the parking area of a few servant quarters behind the Brahmaputra apartment… We will know what started the fire after we get the Fire Brigade report. The DCP said, “The Crime Team has also looked into the area,” confirming that the cause of the fire is still being looked into.
