Washington [US], December 4: After Billboard named Beyoncé the greatest pop star of the 21st century, Taylor Swift expressed her support and happiness for the honor, according to Page Six.
“Taylor has always been a strong advocate for female artists and believes Beyoncé truly deserves this recognition,” a source close to Swift revealed.
Although Swift’s fans were disappointed she didn’t claim the top spot, finishing as the runner-up, she is content with the outcome. “Taylor appreciates all the fan support but understands that Beyoncé is a legendary figure in the music industry, and she’s honored to be ranked second beside her,” the source continued.
“Regardless of her ranking, Taylor is incredibly proud of all she has achieved,” the source added.
Billboard recently reported that while Taylor Swift is the century’s most commercially successful pop star, Beyoncé topped the editorial rankings, thanks to her 25 years of influence, impact, and evolution.
The two pop icons share a long-standing friendship. Their bond began in 2009 when Beyoncé invited a 19-year-old Swift back on stage at the MTV Video Music Awards after Kanye West interrupted Swift’s win for Best Female Video. Over the years, they’ve been public supporters of each other, with Swift once declaring in 2015 that she loved Beyoncé “more than the normal amount.”
Swift’s “Eras Tour” concert film premiered in October, followed by the release of Beyoncé’s “RENAISSANCE: A Film By Beyoncé” in November.
