Bhopal, July 2, 2025: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Betul legislator Hemant Khandelwal has been officially appointed as the new state president of the BJP in Madhya Pradesh. His unopposed election was confirmed Wednesday after he emerged as the sole nominee during the nomination process at the party’s state headquarters in Bhopal.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who was appointed as the party’s election in-charge, oversaw the proceedings.
“I waited here thinking another nomination might be filed, but Madhya Pradesh set an example — everyone unanimously demanded Hemant Khandelwal. He has been appointed unopposed, and I extend my greetings on behalf of BJP national chief JP Nadda and Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Pradhan announced.
The Madhya Pradesh BJP congratulated Khandelwal in a post on X, saying, “Hearty congratulations and best wishes to Hemant Khandelwal on being elected unopposed President of BJP, Madhya Pradesh.”
Khandelwal, 60, is a two-time legislator and former Member of Parliament from Betul. Born in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, he holds degrees in Commerce and Law. His political career began with a by-election victory as MP for Betul-Harda (2008-2009), followed by terms as Betul MLA in 2013 and 2023. He served as BJP Betul District President (2010-2013) and as Treasurer of the Madhya Pradesh BJP (2014-2018).
He has also taken on significant organisational responsibilities, including serving as the BJP’s State Election Officer in 2019 and working in the West Bengal (2021) and Uttar Pradesh (2022) assembly elections. Most recently, he was the state coordinator for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Khandelwal’s extensive experience is expected to bolster the party’s preparations for upcoming polls in Madhya Pradesh.
