Helper Arrested For Brutal Murder Of Delhi Woman And Her Son In Lajpat Nagar

Helper Arrested for Killing Delhi Woman and Her Teenage Son After Being Scolded

In a shocking incident that has shaken Delhi, police have arrested 24-year-old Mukesh Paswan for the gruesome double murder of Ruchika Sewani (42) and her 14-year-old son Krish in Lajpat Nagar-I. The accused was a helper at the family’s garment shop, run by Ruchika and her husband, Kuldeep Sewani.

Paswan confessed that he murdered the mother and son on Wednesday evening after being scolded and humiliated by Ruchika for not reporting to work for over a week.

“There was blood all over the house. The woman was lying dead with her throat slit in a room. The son was found dead in the bathroom, also with his throat slit,” a police officer said anonymously.

Timeline of the Crime

  • 7:30 PM, Wednesday: Mukesh Paswan entered the Sewani residence. Kuldeep was away; only Ruchika and Krish were home. His entry was captured on CCTV.
  • Shortly after: Mukesh allegedly killed Ruchika in the bedroom. Her son Krish witnessed the murder and hid in the bathroom.
  • Around 8:00 PM: Mukesh reportedly murdered Krish in the bathroom, fearing he would alert others.
  • 9:30 PM: Kuldeep returned home, saw blood on the staircase, and received no response from inside. He called the police.
  • 10:00 PM: Police broke into the home and found both victims dead.
  • Thursday, 6:00 PM: Mukesh was arrested at Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay junction in Mughalsarai, Uttar Pradesh. He was fleeing to Bihar by train.

Motive and Background

According to investigators, Mukesh had taken ₹40,000 in advance from the family and had also been gifted a mobile phone. When he failed to show up for work, Ruchika asked him to either return the money or resume duties.

“He was scolded by Ruchika Wednesday morning. That’s when he decided to kill her,” said an officer.

A knife was recovered from the house. Forensic teams are examining whether it was the murder weapon.

Family and Aftermath

  • Kuldeep Sewani was devastated upon discovering the crime.
  • The couple’s daughter Kritika (21), who is pursuing her studies in Jammu, rushed to Delhi after hearing the news.
  • The police continue to investigate and have charged Mukesh with murder and criminal trespass under relevant IPC sections.

This horrifying domestic crime has raised fresh concerns about the safety of employing domestic help without thorough vetting and underscores the unpredictable dangers of interpersonal conflicts escalating into violence.
