Heavy Rains Lash Jammu: Multiple Trains, Including Katra-New Delhi Vande Bharat, Cancelled

The relentless downpour in the Jammu region has entered its fourth consecutive day, causing major disruption to both road and rail travel. In response to the rising water levels in rivers and widespread flooding, the Northern Railways has canceled more than 10 train services as a precautionary measure, according to an official statement.

Among the trains canceled are popular services connecting Jammu to major cities, including the Katra-New Delhi Vande Bharat Express (22440), Katra-New Delhi Shri Shakti Express (22462), and Katra-Rishikesh Hemkund Express (14610).

Rivers and Roads on High Alert

Officials report that several major rivers, including the Tawi and Chenab, are flowing at or above the danger mark. This has led to the inundation of low-lying areas and roads, further exacerbating the crisis. The severity of the situation is being monitored by senior railway officials, including the General Manager of the Northern Railways and the Divisional Railway Manager, who are stationed in Pathankot with technical teams.

The road network has also been severely impacted. The Jammu-Srinagar national highway, a critical lifeline for the region, was suspended for traffic due to a series of landslides and shooting stones in the Ramban district. The continuous rain has already led to at least four deaths in Doda, where reports of flash floods have emerged.

The combination of rising river levels, landslides, and road closures has prompted authorities to issue emergency warnings and advisories, urging residents to stay away from water bodies and avoid unnecessary travel. The railway cancellations are a direct consequence of these hazardous conditions, prioritizing passenger safety over service.
