Heavy Rains Lash Delhi-NCR, Causing Waterlogging And Traffic Snarls

NEW DELHI – On Friday night and Saturday morning, Delhi and the nearby cities of Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad were slammed by a new round of heavy rain. This brought some relief from the humidity, but it also caused a lot of trouble on the roads. Several important places are now flooded and traffic is backed up because of the heavy downpour. Commuters should expect delays.

The IMD has put Delhi on red alert because of “very heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunderstorm” in several sections of the city. Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddh Nagar are under a yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning. The prognosis says that these weather conditions will last for a few more days, and there will be further rain on August 13 and 14. It will be around 33°C at its hottest today and 25°C at its coldest.

Effect on Travel and Traffic:

The rain that fell overnight and in the morning has made it very hard to get to work and travel by air:

Waterlogging: There have been reports of waterlogging in many parts of the city, such as Kidwai Nagar, Moti Bagh, R.K. Puram, and Shastri Bhawan. The road outside Gate No. 7 of Bharat Mandapam and Mathura Road was also very wet.

Flight Delays: The weather has also caused problems for flights at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. According to flight tracking websites, more than 100 planes were late on Saturday morning. Thirteen flights were late coming in and 92 flights were late going out. The airport has said that its teams on the ground are trying to make sure everything runs smoothly.

People who are going to the Rakshabandhan celebration should plan their trips ahead of time to avoid getting delayed in traffic. The air quality was “moderate” at 116 on Friday, but it should become better with the new rain.
