MUMBAI – Heavy rain and flooding have stopped everything in certain sections of Mumbai on Saturday morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the city. The heavy rain that started last night has caused a lot of problems in everyday life, with pictures showing flooding in both homes and businesses.
There was heavy rain all over Mumbai between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. The Marol Fire Station in the western suburbs saw an incredible 207 mm of rain, and the Nariyalwadi School in Santacruz got 202 mm. Vikhroli and Ghatkopar in the eastern suburbs also saw a lot of rain, with 196 mm and 195 mm, respectively.
The rain has made a lot of places very wet, including:
In Dadar and Bandra, the railway tracks were entirely underwater, which stopped train service.
Navi Mumbai: People in Vashi were observed walking through water that was knee-deep.
Kings Circle and Gandhi Market: These well-known places were also very flooded.
The Andheri and Milan subways were also flooded, which made it hard to get about.
Because of low-pressure regions forming in the Bay of Bengal, Maharashtra is likely to have heavy rain for the next few days. The IMD says that there will be moderate to heavy rain, with some very heavy rain at times. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has told people to stay inside unless they really need to go outside.
