Srinagar/Ramban (Jammu and Kashmir), May 31: Heavy rainfall and hailstorms swept through Jammu & Kashmir’s Ramban district on Saturday, causing disruptions in several parts of the region. In Srinagar, moderate to heavy rain cooled temperatures and brought relief to residents and tourists alike.
While the adverse weather affected daily life for many locals, tourists in Srinagar expressed joy at the cooler climate. One visitor remarked, “The rainy weather here feels refreshing and wonderful. Just days ago, it was almost as hot as Uttar Pradesh. Now, Dal Lake looks stunning, and we’re lucky to experience this beautiful weather.”
Weather Update:
- Srinagar experienced intermittent showers, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting cloudy skies with light rain and thunderstorms, and temperatures ranging from 11°C to 24°C.
- Ramban district was battered by hailstorms and heavy rainfall, impacting road traffic and local movement.
- In the Jammu Division, fairly widespread light to moderate rain and thunderstorms were reported, with gusty winds reaching speeds of 50–60 kmph. Jammu city saw partly cloudy skies with light rain, with highs of 37°C and lows around 21°C.
- Muzaffarabad and Mirpur also recorded generally cloudy skies with chances of thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging between 33°C to 37°C and lows between 15°C to 22°C.
IMD Advisory:
The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious, especially in areas prone to landslides and waterlogging. Strong winds and localized heavy rainfall could lead to hazards such as falling trees and power disruptions.
Despite the challenges, the rainfall brought welcome respite from the recent heatwave and revitalized the region’s scenic beauty—particularly for tourists enjoying iconic spots like Dal Lake.
