Hassan (Karnataka) [India] : Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Deve Gowda has extended full support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the wake of the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists.
Addressing the media, Deve Gowda said, “The Prime Minister has taken a firm decision against the terrorists who massacred innocent tourists in Kashmir. These attackers must be caught and taught a lesson. PM Modi has even cancelled his scheduled visit to Russia and granted the Indian Army full freedom to act. I congratulate him for taking such decisive and bold steps. Our support is with him in all efforts to eliminate terrorism.”
Following the attack, the Indian government has announced a series of strong retaliatory measures against Pakistan. These include suspending the Indus Water Treaty—an agreement signed in 1960—and expelling Pakistan’s Defence, Military, Naval, and Air Advisors stationed at the High Commission in New Delhi. They have been declared persona non grata and ordered to leave India within a week.
The Centre has vowed a forceful crackdown on terrorism, with strong signals that the perpetrators and masterminds behind the Pahalgam massacre will face severe consequences.
On Sunday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh echoed this resolve during his speech at the Sanskrati Jagran Mahotsav in New Delhi. “You all know Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s work ethic and his ability to take risks. I assure you, under his leadership, whatever the people desire will be done,” Singh said, reinforcing the government’s determination to deliver a “befitting reply” to those responsible.
Singh further emphasized his role as Defence Minister in ensuring national security and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to act firmly against any threat to India.
