HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Series Casts New Trio: Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, And Alastair Stout To Lead As Harry, Hermione, And Ron

Los Angeles [US], May 28: HBO has officially unveiled the new faces of the iconic trio in its upcoming ‘Harry Potter’ television series. Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout have been cast as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley, stepping into the legendary roles once portrayed by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.

The announcement was made with a magical welcome message shared on Instagram:
“Dear Mr. Potter, Miss Granger, and Mr. Weasley: We are pleased to inform you that you have a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please welcome Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley to the HBO Original Series Harry Potter.”

The roles were secured after an extensive global casting search, with over 30,000 aspiring young actors auditioning since the open call launched last fall, according to Variety.

Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer/director Mark Mylod praised the final casting in a joint statement:
“After an extraordinary search… the talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.”

All three lead actors are relative newcomers. McLaughlin appeared in the upcoming Sky comedy Grow, Stanton played Matilda in the West End’s Matilda: The Musical (2023–2024), and Stout is making his screen debut with this series.

The ensemble cast also includes acclaimed actors such as:

  • John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore
  • Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall
  • Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape
  • Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid
  • Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell
  • Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch

J.K. Rowling, the author of the beloved Harry Potter series, will serve as an executive producer. HBO has emphasized that the show will be a “faithful adaptation” of the original books, promising a fresh yet authentic retelling of the magical saga for a new generation.
