Washington DC, July 15: The 77th Emmy Awards nominations are officially out, and HBO Max has surged ahead of all other platforms with a record-breaking 142 nominations, setting a new benchmark in its awards journey. The top-performing shows include ‘The Penguin’, ‘The White Lotus’, ‘The Last of Us’, and the comedy favorite ‘Hacks’.
According to Variety, this is a new personal best for HBO, surpassing its previous record of 140 nominations set in 2020. While the all-time record remains Netflix’s 160 nominations (also in 2020), HBO Max has clearly returned to dominance after a relatively quiet 2024, where it received 91 nominations amid industry strikes.
This year, Netflix claimed 120 nominations, ranking second, an increase from last year’s 107. Meanwhile, Apple TV+ had its strongest showing yet, racking up 79 nominations thanks to the acclaimed drama ‘Severance’, which leads all series with 27 nominations.
Other standout shows for HBO include:
- ‘The Penguin’ – 24 nominations
- ‘The White Lotus’ – 23 nominations
- ‘The Last of Us’ – 16 nominations
- ‘Hacks’ – 14 nominations
Among comedies, Apple TV+’s ‘The Studio’ came out on top with 23 nominations, slightly edging out HBO’s ‘Hacks’.
The Walt Disney Company’s platforms amassed a combined total of 136 nominations, with Hulu and FX contributing 95, led by FX’s ‘The Bear’ (13 nominations). Disney+ added 40 more, led by the Star Wars spinoff ‘Andor’ Season 2 (14 nominations).
These strong showings signal a highly competitive Emmy race this year across drama, comedy, and limited series categories.
The 77th Emmy Awards will air live on September 14, 2025, on CBS and stream on Paramount+.
