Rohtak (Haryana) [India]: Haryana Minister Krishna Kumar Bedi stated on Friday that farmers participating in the ongoing protests are primarily from Punjab and not Haryana, asserting that any concerns raised would be addressed by the central government and court rulings.
Speaking after unveiling a statue of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar at Maharishi Dayanand University in Rohtak, Bedi emphasized Haryana’s achievements in supporting its farmers.
“Haryana Leading in Farmer Welfare”
Bedi underlined the steps taken by the Haryana government to support farmers, claiming they surpass efforts made by other states.
“Haryana has made 24 decisions in favour of farmers, including compensating for unharvested crops and ensuring the purchase of crops at MSP. Our government has consistently worked to benefit farmers,” he said.
He also praised Haryana’s stubble management initiatives, noting that the state had received appreciation from the Supreme Court for its efforts—contrasting them with what he claimed were shortcomings in Punjab.
“These protesters are farmers from Punjab,” he reiterated.
Addressing Farmers’ Protests
Tensions remain high with farmers planning marches towards Delhi to press for their demands. Bedi reassured that the issues would be addressed through appropriate channels:
“The concerns of these farmers will be resolved by the central government and court orders. Haryana’s farmers are not part of these protests as they are already benefiting from various government schemes,” he added.
Rejecting Congress Allegations
The minister also responded to allegations from the Congress Party, which claimed the BJP seeks to abolish the Constitution. Bedi strongly refuted the claims:
“The Constitution cannot and will never be abolished. It was created by Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, who not only guided India but the entire world,” Bedi asserted.
He criticized the Congress for spreading misinformation:
“The Chief Minister has already clarified all points in the Assembly. Congress has no substantial explanation for these baseless allegations,” he remarked.
The remarks come as protests continue to escalate, with farmers from Punjab pressing for their demands, while Haryana asserts its focus on farmer welfare through extensive state-level initiatives.
