Haryana Declares Holiday To Mourn Former CM Om Prakash Chautala’s Demise

The Haryana government has declared a public holiday in all schools and state offices on Saturday to mourn the demise of former Chief Minister Chaudhary Om Prakash Chautala, who passed away on December 20.

Official Announcement

The Directorate of School Education, Haryana, issued a notice stating:

“As per the fax message received from the Chief Secretary, Govt. of Haryana dated December 20, the State has decided to observe 3-days mourning in view of the death of Chaudhary Om Prakash Chautala, Ex-Chief Minister, Haryana. The Haryana Govt. has declared a public holiday in all the State Offices as a mark of respect to the departed Soul.”

The directive ensures compliance across all schools and state government offices.

Mourning and Last Rites

The Haryana government announced a three-day state mourning from December 20 to 22. During this period:

  • The national flag will be flown at half-mast across all government buildings in the state.
  • All state government functions will be canceled.
  • Official entertainment is suspended as a mark of respect.

Chaudhary Om Prakash Chautala’s mortal remains have been brought to his ancestral farmhouse in Teja Khera, Sirsa. His last rites will take place at 3 pm on December 21 at Teja Khera Farm.

Public Viewing of Mortal Remains

Aditya Chautala, nephew of the former CM, informed that the mortal remains will be kept from 8 am to 2 pm for the public and party workers to pay their last respects.

State Funeral Arrangements

The government has accorded a state funeral for the departed leader. Sirsa Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police have been instructed to oversee arrangements at Sirsa and Teja Khera.

Tributes and Condolences

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini paid tribute, calling Chautala a visionary leader:

“With his demise, a chapter of Haryana politics has come to an end. Chautala ji’s personality was a symbol of simplicity and struggle. His contribution to Haryana politics will always be remembered.”

The state mourns the passing of Chaudhary Om Prakash Chautala, a pivotal figure in Haryana’s political history and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) supremo.
