Vice President Kamala Harris Honors The Legacy Of Former President Jimmy Carter

US Vice President Kamala Harris paid tribute to former President Jimmy Carter, hailing him as an inspiration and a lifelong champion for peace, democracy, and human dignity. Carter passed away at the age of 100 on Sunday at his home in Plains, Georgia.

In a heartfelt statement, Harris reflected on Carter’s unwavering commitment to service:
“President Jimmy Carter was guided by a deep and abiding faith — in God, in America, and in humanity. Jimmy Carter’s life is a testament to the power of service — as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy, the 76th Governor of Georgia, and the 39th President of the United States. He reminded our nation and the world that there is strength in decency and compassion.”

She highlighted Carter’s accomplishments during his presidency, including his efforts to protect the environment, promote government transparency, and broker the historic Camp David Accords, a peace treaty between Egypt and Israel. Harris also acknowledged the steadfast partnership of First Lady Rosalynn Carter, whose contributions were integral to Carter’s work:
“Throughout his life, President Carter was strengthened by the love and support of his partner of 77 years, First Lady Rosalynn Carter, whose life President Biden and I had the opportunity to celebrate in Georgia last year.”

A Personal Reflection

Harris shared her personal connection with Carter, stating:
“I had the privilege of knowing President Carter for years and will always remember his kindness, wisdom, and profound grace. His life and legacy continue to inspire me — and will inspire generations to come. Our world is a better place because of President Carter.”

A Legacy of Service

Jimmy Carter’s passing has prompted tributes from leaders worldwide. Earlier, President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden expressed their condolences, calling Carter a “man of great character and courage.”

Carter’s illustrious career included his time as a Lieutenant in the US Navy, the 76th Governor of Georgia, and the 39th President of the United States. Following his presidency, Carter continued to advocate for peace and human rights through the Carter Center, an organization dedicated to advancing democracy and improving lives globally.

Final Farewell

The White House announced an official state funeral will be held in Washington DC to honor Carter’s lifetime of service to “God and country.”

Carter had been under hospice care since early 2023 after years of battling aggressive melanoma that spread to his liver and brain. His enduring legacy as a statesman, humanitarian, and champion of decency will continue to inspire generations.
