Haridwar: Ganges Flowing Close To Danger Level Mark, Authorities Alerted

Haridwar (Uttarakhand): The Ganges is flowing close to the danger mark in full spate in wake of incessant rains in the hills of the state, as per authorities.


The river is flowing at 293.15 centimeters in Bhimgoda barrage of the city and the danger level is stated to be at 294 centimeters and presently the river is just short of 85 centimetres from the danger mark.


Informing about the Ganga flow, Bhimgoda barrage engineer Harish Prasad said ,”At this time, the river is flowing at its optimal level. Warning level is 293 cms and currently the river is at 293.15 cms. The danger level is 294 cms. In view of the increasing level of the river, an alert has been sounded and the district administration has issued instructions to observe precaution. The authorities of the irrigation department are present at the barrage since night. The flood camps in the plains have also been put on alert mode. The water level of Ganges river is constantly rising because of heavy rains in the hills.”


Harish Prasad said, “All workers have been assigned duties in the flood units and have been asked to remain vigilant. Meanwhile, the water of the river containing silt and entering the city has been stopped at this time.”


He added, “The authorities concerned have been asked to be cautious amidst heavy rainfall in the region.”
