New Delhi [India]: Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya expressed his delight after lifting the ICC Champions Trophy, recalling his painful run-out in the 2017 Champions Trophy final and vowing to win more ICC titles in the future.
Pandya played a crucial role in India’s victorious campaign, contributing both with the bat and ball. He reflected on the heartbreak of 2017, where his dismissal alongside Ravindra Jadeja cost India the final against Pakistan.
“In 2017, the work was left unfinished. I couldn’t finish the job back then, and I am very, very glad that tonight I can say I am a Champions Trophy winner. That sounds good,” Hardik said in a video shared by BCCI.
Determined to Win More Trophies
Pandya emphasized his hunger for more silverware, stating his desire to win five to six more ICC trophies.
“For me, this has always been about winning as many championships as I can. I did say it when we won in 2024: That’s not done. I still need five or six more trophies. I’m thrilled that one more is added,” he added.
Team First Mentality
Hardik credited his team-first mindset as his driving force:
“The most important thing in my cricketing journey is ensuring my team wins. Even if I don’t contribute, if my team wins, that’s the most beautiful feeling for me,” Pandya said.
Star Performers in the Tournament
Several standout performances played a vital role in India’s triumph:
- Shubman Gill – 188 runs in five matches, including a century
- Shreyas Iyer – 243 runs in five games with two fifties
- Axar Patel – 109 runs and 5 wickets
- KL Rahul – 140 runs in five matches at an impressive average of 140.00
- Varun Chakravarthy – Claimed 9 wickets
Future Goals
Pandya praised his teammates for their resilience and focus, acknowledging the team’s exceptional self-belief. Looking ahead, he set his sights on the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.
“The Champions Trophy is done. My next goal is the ICC T20 World Cup in India — lifting the cup,” Pandya concluded.
