New Delhi [India], April 15: Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and senior BJP leader attended the special screening of the upcoming historical drama ‘Kesari: Chapter 2’ in New Delhi on Tuesday. Joining him were Bollywood stars Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Delhi BJP Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
The film explores the aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, portraying a riveting courtroom face-off between Akshay Kumar, who plays nationalist lawyer C Sankaran Nair, and R Madhavan, who takes on the role of Neville McKinley, a legal representative of the British Crown.
Prior to the screening, Minister Puri interacted with the lead actors and cast members, expressing support for the film’s theme and historical importance. Both Union Minister Puri and Minister Sirsa also engaged with audience members present at the screening, discussing the film’s relevance.
The cast and crew of Kesari: Chapter 2 thanked the ministers for their presence and support, calling it a strong boost to the message of the film.
The legacy of C Sankaran Nair, on whom the movie is based, was recently acknowledged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a public address in Haryana. PM Modi highlighted Nair’s courage in holding the British government accountable after the 1919 massacre, despite hailing from Kerala and challenging an atrocity that took place in Punjab.
“He raised his voice against British atrocities when he could have lived a life of comfort. His courage united people across regions,” the Prime Minister said.
Actor Akshay Kumar shared a clip of PM Modi’s remarks on Instagram, expressing gratitude and underlining the importance of remembering India’s freedom fighters.
“Thank you Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji for remembering the great Chettur Sankaran Nair ji… Kesari Chapter 2 is a humble effort to remind everyone that we must never take our freedom for granted,” Akshay wrote.
Kesari: Chapter 2 is slated for a theatrical release on April 18, 2025.
