Renowned Tamil music composer and actor GV Prakash Kumar fell victim to a common social media scam on December 25, 2025, after being moved by a fraudulent emotional plea on X (formerly Twitter). The National Award-winning artist reportedly transferred ₹20,000 to an individual posing as a grieving fan in need of financial aid.
The Incident
The scam unfolded on Christmas Day when a user with the handle ‘Mom Little King’ (@prasannasathis) tagged GV Prakash in a series of posts.
- The Fabricated Story: The user shared a picture of an elderly woman, claiming she was his mother who had recently passed away. He alleged that she had been the sole breadwinner for him and his sister and requested funds to perform her “last rites.”
- The Response: Moved by the sob story, Prakash initially overlooked the post at 11:12 AM but responded after a second tag at 1:59 PM. By 2:28 PM, he had requested the user’s Gpay number and transferred ₹20,000, even posting a screenshot of the transaction as confirmation.
How the Fraud was Exposed
Shortly after the transfer, vigilant netizens and fans began investigating the claim and quickly debunked it:
- Reverse Image Search: Users discovered that the photo of the “deceased mother” was actually an old image sourced from a viral video dating back to 2022.
- Community Warnings: Netizens pointed out that the woman in the photo had passed away years ago and had no relation to the scammer.
- Reaction: Fans flooded the thread with comments like “You got scammed ra” and “Blud got scammed publicly,” while others shared that they had also been duped of smaller amounts (ranging from ₹100 to ₹1,000) by the same account.
Current Status
Despite the public exposure of the fraud, the scammer reportedly stopped answering calls once the money was received. While the financial loss is modest for a star of his stature, fans have expressed concern that such incidents discourage celebrities from helping genuine cases in the future.
