Vice President of Guyana, Bharrat Jagdeo, has offered unequivocal support to India in its fight against terrorism, following a high-level meeting with the Indian all-party delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.
Addressing media, Jagdeo affirmed:
“It was an excellent visit. I assured the delegation that Guyana stands unequivocally with India. We are against terrorism, and we believe that all those who perpetrate terrorist activities must be brought to justice. We are happy that the delegation came from India to Guyana.”

The visit underscores India’s global diplomatic effort to build consensus around a zero-tolerance stance against terrorism, especially after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people were killed by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists.
The delegation — comprising representatives across India’s political spectrum — includes:
- Shambhavi Chaudhary (Lok Janshakti Party)
- Sarfaraz Ahmed (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha)
- G M Harish Balayagi (Telugu Desam Party)
- Shashank Mani Tripathi, Tejasvi Surya, Bhubaneswar K Lata (BJP)
- Mallikarjun Devda (Shiv Sena)
- Taranjit Singh Sandhu (Former Indian Ambassador to the US)
Upon arrival in Georgetown, the team was welcomed with overwhelming enthusiasm by the Indian diaspora in Guyana, many of whom hailed India’s decisive response to cross-border terrorism.
Addressing the diaspora, Shashi Tharoor reiterated India’s united stand:
“We have to stand against terrorism wherever it comes. We have to not only bring the evil killers to justice, but we must also seriously challenge those who are financing them, training them, equipping them, directing them to do their evil.”

Echoing Tharoor’s sentiment, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya said:
“The objective of the mission is to amplify India’s message of zero tolerance against Pakistani terrorism… Across political parties, across regions of India, all members of parliament have come here to express India’s solidarity in one voice against terrorism. This is not just an India problem — this is a global problem.”

Surya also emphasized Guyana’s strategic relevance to India:
“Guyana is home to nearly 40% people of Indian origin, hosts Indian universities, and is a founding member of CARICOM — an important global voice.”
The delegation also aims to brief international partners on India’s military response — Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 — targeting terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, eliminating over 100 terrorists from groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
This diplomatic outreach in Guyana, backed by bipartisan Indian support, marks a significant milestone in India’s global campaign to isolate terrorism sponsors and reinforce international solidarity against extremist violence.
