Gurugram Tragedy: 7 Workers Dead as Soil Mound Collapses at Construction Site; Dozen Still Feared Trapped

A devastating accident at a construction site near the Gurugram–Rewari border has claimed the lives of at least seven workers and left several others critically injured.

The incident occurred late Monday evening, March 9, 2026, at a project site in Sidhrawali village where a sewage treatment plant (STP) was being constructed for a residential society. According to reports, a massive mound of soil caved in during basement digging work, burying nearly 20 labourers under the debris.

Rescue operations, spearheaded by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local police, and civil defence teams, continued through the early hours of Tuesday. While four survivors were pulled from the rubble and rushed to hospitals in nearby Bhiwadi and Gurugram, officials fear that at least 10 more workers remain trapped beneath the soil. Heavy machinery and high-mast lights have been deployed to expedite the search, as the rescue teams battle against time to find any remaining signs of life.

The tragedy has sparked an immediate administrative investigation into whether safety protocols were ignored at the site, which is reportedly part of a Signature Global housing project. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini expressed his deep condolences to the families of the victims and directed district officials to ensure strict accountability. The local police have confirmed that five workers were declared dead on arrival at the hospital, while two more bodies were later recovered from the site.
