Dominant Gujarat Titans Thrash Rajasthan Royals By 58 Runs In IPL Showdown

Ahmedabad (Gujarat): Gujarat Titans (GT) delivered a dominant all-round performance to secure a resounding 58-run win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday.

Sai Sudharsan was the star of the show with a blazing 82, guiding GT to an imposing total of 217/6. The Titans’ bowling unit then stepped up collectively to dismantle RR’s batting lineup, bowling them out for 159 in 19.2 overs.

Chasing a stiff target of 218, Rajasthan got off to a shaky start. Arshad Khan struck early, removing Yashasvi Jaiswal for 6 and reducing RR to 10/1 in just 1.2 overs. The pressure continued as Nitish Rana departed for just 1 run, with the Royals stumbling to 12/2 in 2.2 overs.

Captain Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag tried to rebuild with a 48-run stand, but their partnership was broken by impact player Kulwant Khejroliya, who dismissed Parag for 26. Dhruv Jurel followed soon after for 5, leaving RR at 68/4.

Sanju Samson showed resistance with a 41-run knock but was eventually removed by Prasidh Krishna. From there, the Titans bowlers tightened their grip. Shubham Dubey, another impact player, managed just 1 before falling to Rashid Khan. Jofra Archer and Shimron Hetmyer were both dismissed by Krishna, though Hetmyer did fight back with a valiant 52.

The tail didn’t offer much resistance either. Tushar Deshpande and Maheesh Theekshana were both taken out by Sai Kishore, who closed the innings strongly.

Prasidh Krishna was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 3/24. Rashid Khan and Sai Kishore each claimed two wickets, while Kulwant Khejroliya, Arshad Khan, and Mohammed Siraj chipped in with one apiece.

It was a clinical display from the Titans, who outplayed the Royals in all departments to secure a commanding victory.

Earlier in the match, Sanju Samson had won the toss and elected to bowl first.

GT openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan walked out to start the innings. However, Gill was dismissed early, scoring just 2 runs in the third over.

Despite the early setback, Gujarat crossed the 50-run mark in the sixth over, with the milestone coming off a wide delivery from Sandeep Sharma.

Following Gill’s departure, Jos Buttler joined Sudharsan at the crease. The pair forged a superb 80-run partnership from just 47 balls before Buttler was dismissed by Maheesh Theekshana in the 10th over, after scoring 36 off 25 balls.

Next up was Shahrukh Khan, who joined Sudharsan to continue the momentum. The duo added a quickfire 62 runs in 34 balls before Shahrukh fell in the 16th over for 36, again to Theekshana.

In the final overs, Rahul Tewatia (24* off 12) and Rashid Khan (12 off 4) played important cameos, pushing GT’s total to a formidable 217/6 at the end of 20 overs.

Sai Sudharsan led the scoring with a brilliant 82 off 53 balls, which included eight boundaries and three sixes.

For the Royals, Tushar Deshpande (2/53) and Maheesh Theekshana (2/54) were among the wickets, while Jofra Archer (1/30) and Sandeep Sharma (1/41) also made contributions during their spells.

📊 Brief Score:
Gujarat Titans 217/6 (Sai Sudharsan 82, Shahrukh Khan 36; Tushar Deshpande 2/53)
Rajasthan Royals 159 all out (Shimron Hetmyer 52, Sanju Samson 41; Prasidh Krishna 3/24)
