Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], April 7: Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill showered praise on pace ace Mohammed Siraj for his game-changing spell that helped GT secure a comprehensive seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their IPL 2025 clash at the Uppal Stadium on Sunday.
Siraj, whose fiery bowling rattled the SRH top-order, was the standout performer once again, continuing his redemption arc with match-winning impact. “Bowlers are game-changers, especially in this format,” Gill said at the post-match presentation. “A lot of people talk about big-hitters, but bowlers win you games. The energy Siraj brings while bowling and fielding is infectious.”
The win marked GT’s third successive victory, pushing them up the points table and reaffirming their position as early title contenders. In contrast, SRH slumped to their fourth loss in a row, unable to find rhythm after their explosive campaign opener.
Gill also praised his partnership with Washington Sundar, which proved pivotal in the chase. “We wanted to keep things simple—play shots along the ground,” said Gill. “There wasn’t any specific conversation. It was all about good cricketing shots. Once we got a 30-40 run stand, we knew we could take it from there.”
Earlier in the match, GT opted to field first after winning the toss. SRH’s top-order failed once again, with Travis Head (8), Abhishek Sharma (18), and Ishan Kishan (17) falling cheaply. A brief 50-run stand between Nitish Kumar Reddy (31 off 34) and Heinrich Klaasen (27 off 19), followed by a late cameo by *Pat Cummins (22 off 9)**, lifted SRH to 152/8.
GT’s bowlers, especially Prasidh Krishna (2/25) and Sai Kishore (2/24), executed tight lines, never allowing SRH to build momentum.
In response, GT lost two early wickets for just 16 runs, but a composed 90-run stand between Gill (61 off 43) and Sundar (49 off 29) turned the match decisively in their favor. Sherfane Rutherford added the finishing touches with a blistering 35 off 16 balls*, helping Titans chase down the target in 16.4 overs with seven wickets in hand.
GT now sit comfortably at second place on the points table with three wins from four matches. Meanwhile, SRH’s campaign is teetering, rooted at the bottom despite their explosive win over Rajasthan Royals in the opener.
