Gujarat Titans Go Top After Crushing Royals: Shubman Gill Praises Team Effort

Ahmedabad (Gujarat): Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill credited his entire squad for their collective effort after a dominant 58-run victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their IPL 2025 clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday.

GT put up a powerful all-round performance, led by Sai Sudharsan’s explosive 82-run knock, to post a daunting total of 217/6. Their bowlers then ran through the Rajasthan batting order, bowling them out for 159 in 19.2 overs.

The win catapulted Gujarat Titans to the top of the IPL 2025 points table, with four wins from five matches and a total of eight points. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals slipped to seventh place after suffering their third defeat in five outings.

In the post-match presentation, GT skipper Shubman Gill praised the balance of the team and the depth of contribution from all players:

“That’s a good total on the board. It wasn’t easy in the first 3 to 4 overs. The way Sai and Buttler batted was amazing. We’ll take 220 any day of the week. And then our fast bowlers were very clinical to finish off the job. If you have difficulty choosing the man of the match, it is a good problem for us. We are having a team where everyone contributes. Very pleased, when you have bowlers like Rashid it makes the captain’s job easy. (On if the senior players bully him) Everyone is very nice to me.”

The match began with RR skipper Sanju Samson winning the toss and opting to bowl first. GT, led by Shubman Gill, put up a strong total thanks to key contributions from Sai Sudharsan (82 off 53), Jos Buttler (36 off 25), and Shahrukh Khan (36 off 20).

For Rajasthan, Tushar Deshpande (2/53) and Maheesh Theekshana (2/54) picked up two wickets each, while Jofra Archer (1/30) and Sandeep Sharma (1/41) also chipped in with one wicket apiece during their four-over spells.

Chasing 218, Rajasthan struggled to build momentum. Despite valiant efforts from Shimron Hetmyer (52 off 32) and Sanju Samson (41 off 28), the team ultimately fell short by 58 runs.

GT’s bowling was clinical, with Prasidh Krishna standing out as the most effective bowler with figures of 3/24. Rashid Khan and Sai Kishore took two wickets each, while Kulwant Khejroliya, Arshad Khan, and Mohammed Siraj claimed one wicket apiece.

Gujarat’s commanding victory has firmly established them as the team to beat in the early phase of the tournament.
