New Delhi, June 13, 2025 — A high-level multi-disciplinary committee, constituted by the Government of India, held its first major meeting on Monday to deliberate on the possible causes behind the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, one of the deadliest aviation disasters in decades.
The panel is chaired by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and includes representatives from key agencies and ministries involved in aviation safety, intelligence, and disaster response.
🧩 Key Agencies Involved in Investigation
Those present at the meeting included officials from:
- Ministry of Civil Aviation
- Ministry of Home Affairs
- Indian Air Force
- Intelligence Bureau (IB)
- Gujarat Government
- Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)
- Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS)
The committee discussed multiple theories behind the crash and potential measures to prevent such tragedies in the future, according to official sources.
🔍 Crash Background and Ongoing Probe
The Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, operating flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to London, crashed shortly after takeoff on Thursday afternoon, killing 241 of the 242 people on board.
Officials confirmed that both the black box and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) have been recovered — crucial components for reconstructing the moments before the crash.
📜 Dual Approach: Technical + Policy Review
Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu stated that while the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will handle the technical investigation, the high-level committee has been tasked with creating a “holistic, policy-oriented roadmap” for future aviation safety.
“This committee will focus on broader policy safeguards and multi-agency coordination to avoid such accidents,” Naidu said.
The committee is expected to submit its findings within three months.
