Republican lawmakers have introduced a resolution to establish an annual “National Charlie Kirk Day” to honor the late conservative activist. This proposal comes after Kirk’s assassination on September 10, 2025.
Proposed “National Charlie Kirk Day”
The resolution, filed by Congressman Jimmy Patronis and Senator Rick Scott, seeks to create an official day of remembrance on the first Monday of August each year. The measure aims to honor Kirk’s life and legacy as the founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), a prominent conservative youth organization.
Widespread Reaction and Legacy
The proposal is backed by several House Republicans who praised Kirk as a “champion for free speech and conservative values.” His death has garnered a strong reaction across the political spectrum. President Donald Trump called him a “martyr for truth and freedom,” and public vigils have been held nationwide. A memorial service is scheduled for September 21 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
The Assassination
Charlie Kirk, 31, was fatally shot on September 10 while speaking at a TPUSA event at Utah Valley University. Authorities have charged 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection with the shooting, though the motive remains under investigation.
The resolution will now proceed through Congress, highlighting the significant impact Kirk’s death has had on the conservative movement.
