Los Angeles [US]: The Golden Globe Awards are expanding their scope in 2026 with the introduction of a brand-new category: Best Podcast of the Year, reflecting the rising prominence of podcasting in the global entertainment landscape.
The 83rd Golden Globe Awards, scheduled for January 11, 2026, will mark the debut of the category, which aims to spotlight excellence in both audio and video podcast formats. The announcement was made by the award organizers and reported by Variety.
“As the world of entertainment continues to evolve, we are excited to recognize new forms of storytelling,” said Helen Hoehne, president of the Golden Globes. “Podcasts have emerged as a profound medium for sharing narratives and building communities across global borders and generations.”
The award will consider the 25 most popular podcasts from the previous year, from which six finalists will be selected. Specific eligibility criteria and nomination guidelines are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
This marks a significant move by the Golden Globes to stay current with evolving media platforms and honor storytelling beyond traditional film and television formats.
