Golden Globes 2026 Kick Off Awards Season As One Battle After Another Leads With 9 Nominations

The 83rd Golden Globe Awards, widely seen as the formal start of Hollywood’s awards season and a key precursor to the Oscars, got underway on Sunday night at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, bringing together the biggest names in global cinema and television.

Leading the race this year is Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, which secured a commanding nine nominations, the highest among all films. With this feat, the film became only the sixth in Golden Globes history to earn five acting nominations, including at least one nod in each of the four acting categories, regardless of genre — a rare and prestigious milestone.

Films and TV Shows Dominating the Nominations

Close on its heels, Sentimental Value picked up eight nominations, while Sinners followed with seven, placing all three firmly in contention for major honours on the night. Other prominent films vying for top awards include Marty Supreme, Frankenstein, Hamnet, and Wicked: For Good.

On the television front, HBO’s The White Lotus emerged as the most-nominated series with six nods, reaffirming its awards-season dominance. It was followed by Adolescence, which earned five nominations, along with strong showings from The Pitt and The Studio.

Star-Studded Acting Line-Up

The acting categories this year boast a powerhouse line-up featuring Timothée Chalamet, Emma Stone, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jessie Buckley, Michael B. Jordan, and Jennifer Lawrence, among others. The competition reflects a year rich in both critically acclaimed performances and box-office success.

Notably, One Battle After Another also claimed early wins, with Teyana Taylor taking home the Best Supporting Actress award, while Stellan Skarsgård won Best Supporting Actor for his role in Sentimental Value.

New Categories and Hosting Highlights

This year’s ceremony also introduced a new category for Best Podcast, expanding the scope of the Golden Globes in line with evolving entertainment formats.

US comedian Nikki Glaser returned as host after her widely praised debut last year. Her sharp opening monologue drew comparisons to past Globe greats such as Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler, as she delivered pointed yet playful jabs at the A-list audience.

Calling the experience “without a doubt the most fun I have ever had in my career,” Glaser admitted to the BBC earlier that the sheer “star power” in the room can be intimidating. “I blur my eyes when I’m on stage,” she said, “and I’ll be doing that so hard on the night.”

A Crucial Night Ahead of the Oscars

With major films like Sinners, Marty Supreme, and One Battle After Another battling it out across key categories, the outcomes at the Golden Globes are expected to significantly influence momentum heading into the Academy Awards.

As Hollywood watches closely, this year’s Globes promise not just glamour, but also early answers to who may dominate the rest of the awards season.
