Gaurav Gogoi Hits Back At Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Over ISI Allegations

New Delhi [India]: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has strongly criticized Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of being “restless” and fearing the loss of his position. Gogoi’s remarks come after Sarma alleged that the Congress leader’s wife had links to Pakistan’s ISI.

Gogoi’s Counterattack

Speaking to media, Gogoi dismissed the allegations, claiming they were an attempt by the Assam CM to deflect attention from corruption cases within his administration.

“The Assam CM has been restless for the past 3-4 months. Corruption cases in his PWD department have reached Delhi. He is worried that his CM chair might slip out of his hands. Instead of working, he is resorting to lies and distractions,” Gogoi stated.

He added that the Congress party would continue to raise issues concerning the people of Assam.

Sarma’s Allegations

Earlier, Himanta Biswa Sarma had accused Gaurav Gogoi’s wife, Elizabeth Colbourn, of having ties to Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI, and of working in Pakistan in the past.

“Sooner or later, it will be known how foreign powers, led by George Soros’ ecosystem, influenced a major decision of Assam Congress in 2014. The truth will emerge in due course,” Sarma said.

He further alleged that the Congress MP and his wife had connections with the Pakistan High Commission and were involved in radicalizing young minds.

Questioning Political Associations

Sarma also questioned the timing of certain events linked to Gogoi’s political career, claiming that in 2015, the Pakistani High Commissioner to India, Abdul Basit, invited a first-term MP and his organization, Policy for Youth, to discuss India-Pakistan relations at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.

“The MP was not even a member of the Parliamentary Committee on External Affairs at the time, so what was the purpose of the meeting?” Sarma questioned.

Gogoi’s Response

Dismissing the allegations, Gogoi ridiculed Sarma’s claims, saying that if his wife was an ISI agent, then he must be an R&AW agent.

“If my wife is an ISI agent of Pakistan, then I am an R&AW agent of India. The Assam CM is making these allegations only to divert attention from the allegations against him,” Gogoi retorted.

With political tensions rising in Assam, the exchange of accusations between the Congress and BJP leaders is expected to continue in the lead-up to the elections.
