Leaders from across the world have expressed their condolences following the passing of former US President James Earl Carter Jr., who died at the age of 100 at his home in Plains, Georgia.

The tributes highlighted Carter’s lifelong dedication to peace, democracy, and humanitarian causes, showcasing his impact on global leadership and diplomacy.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer honored Carter’s “selfless public service” and emphasized his “lifelong dedication to peace.”

French President Emmanuel Macron remarked:
“Throughout his life, Jimmy Carter was a steadfast advocate for the rights of the most vulnerable and tirelessly fought for peace. France sends its heartfelt thoughts to his family and to the American people.”

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese praised Carter’s humble beginnings and remarked:
“His legacy is best measured in lives changed, saved, and uplifted.”

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau described Carter as a “lifelong humanitarian,” adding:
“My deepest condolences to the Carter family, his many loved ones, and the American people.”

US Tributes and Funeral Plans

Earlier, US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden described Carter as a “man of great character and courage.” The White House announced an official state funeral would be held in Washington DC to honor Carter’s life of service to “God and country.”

A Lifetime of Service

James Earl Carter Jr. served as the 39th President of the United States, advocating for human rights, environmental preservation, and global peace. His legacy includes the historic Camp David Accords, his environmental policies, and his post-presidency humanitarian work through the Carter Center.

Carter passed away on Sunday, as confirmed by his son, James E. Carter III. In February 2023, the Carter Center announced that after several hospital stays, Carter had chosen to receive hospice care at home. He had been battling an aggressive form of melanoma that spread to his liver and brain in recent years.

Carter’s life and legacy have left an indelible mark on the world, inspiring leaders and citizens alike with his dedication to public service and compassion.
