Glenn Phillips Shocks Fans With Left-Handed Six In Super Smash 2025-26; Smashes

A stunning video of New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Glenn Phillips has gone viral after he pulled off a never-seen-before batting move in the Super Smash 2025-26 T20 tournament. Playing for Otago, Phillips shocked everyone by switching from right-handed to left-handed mid-innings during the match against Central Districts on December 30.

Facing left-arm spinner Jayden Lennox, Phillips suddenly changed his stance moments before the delivery. Lennox attempted to counter by bowling a fuller ball wide outside off, close to the tramline. However, the switch-hitting Phillips still managed to connect beautifully, launching the ball for a massive six over extra cover. The audacious shot left commentators stunned and sent fans into a frenzy on social media.

Phillips didn’t just rely on that extraordinary moment — he carried his form throughout the innings, finishing with a brilliant unbeaten 90 off 48 balls, including seven fours and four sixes, at an impressive strike rate of 187.50. His outstanding knock powered Otago to victory by 41 runs, earning him the Player of the Match award.

Speaking to TVNZ after the match, Phillips revealed that the switch-hit wasn’t a sudden experiment.

“I’ve done it a little while in the nets but never really brought it out in a match,” he said. “It’s definitely unusual to try something like that in professional cricket, but the other day I was actually timing the ball better left-handed than right-handed in training. So it made sense to try it when there was nothing left to lose.”

Apart from his domestic success, Phillips continues to be a notable name in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He previously played for Rajasthan Royals (2021) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (2023) before being bought by Gujarat Titans for ₹2 crore ahead of IPL 2025. The franchise has retained him for the upcoming season, where expectations from the power-hitter remain high.
