New Delhi [India]: Union Minister Giriraj Singh strongly criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her remarks at Oxford University’s Kellogg College in London, calling them “unfortunate.”
During her address, Mamata Banerjee disagreed with the prediction that India would become the world’s largest economy by 2060.
Responding to her statement, Giriraj Singh said, “Hiding the truth and insulting India, both are done by Mamata Banerjee. Today, the whole world is witnessing and respecting our growing economy, but unfortunately, when Mamata Banerjee and the ‘tukde-tukde gang’ go abroad, they insult India. This is unfortunate.”
The West Bengal CM also faced protests from a group of people at Oxford, where she was questioned about the RG Kar College case and post-poll violence in West Bengal.
BJP leader Amit Malviya shared a video from the event where Mamata Banerjee was engaged in a discussion on “Social Development – Girl, Child, and Women Empowerment in West Bengal.” When the host stated that India was projected to become the world’s largest economy by 2060, she responded, “I will differ that.”
Amit Malviya later posted on X, accusing her of opposing India’s economic growth. “West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has a problem with India becoming the world’s largest economy… This is truly shameful. She is a disgrace to the constitutional office she holds. Who behaves like this on foreign soil?” he wrote.
The remarks have sparked a political debate, with BJP leaders criticizing Banerjee for what they see as a negative portrayal of India’s economic future on an international platform.
