New Delhi [India]: The Delhi Police have confirmed the initiation of an investigation into an alleged death threat received by India’s head cricket coach and former MP Gautam Gambhir from the terror group “ISIS Kashmir.”
A police spokesperson stated on Thursday, “We have been informed about an alleged threat mail received on an email ID associated with Gautam Gambhir. The same is being investigated. Gautam Gambhir is already a Delhi Police protectee, and we do not comment on specific security arrangements.”
The former BJP MP approached law enforcement officials on Wednesday, filing a formal complaint with SHO Rajinder Nagar Police Station and the DCP Central Delhi, urging authorities to act swiftly and ensure the safety of his family.
The threatening emails, which reportedly came in on April 22, bore the chilling message “IKillU“, one received in the afternoon and another in the evening. Notably, the same day saw one of the deadliest terror attacks since Pulwama 2019, where 26 civilians were killed in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, when terrorists opened fire on tourists in the Baisaran meadow.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Gambhir condemned the brutal attack, stating:
“Praying for the families of the deceased. Those responsible for this will pay. India will strike.”
This is not the first time Gambhir has been targeted. In November 2021, while serving as a Member of Parliament, he also received a similar threat from an email linked to ISIS Kashmir.
The case continues to be under investigation, with heightened attention due to Gambhir’s public stature and past history of threats.
