Guwahati: Assam’s most beloved singer, composer, and actor, Zubeen Garg, continues to live on in the hearts of millions, even after his untimely death in Singapore on September 19, 2025. Known for his unparalleled contribution to Indian music and cinema, the 52-year-old artist left behind not only a rich legacy — but also a deeply emotional handwritten letter that has now surfaced online.
The letter, penned by Zubeen just four days before his death, was intended as part of the promotional campaign for his final film, Roi Roi Binale, which is scheduled for release on October 31. What was meant to be a simple message to fans has now taken on profound significance — becoming, in many ways, Zubeen’s final goodbye.
Garima Garg’s Heartfelt Post Goes Viral
In a deeply emotional Instagram post, Zubeen’s wife Garima Garg shared the handwritten letter along with a message that has struck a chord with fans across the country.
She wrote,
“The letters you wrote on 15th September… A loving appeal to your beloved people! Every word hits the heart, Goldie! But amongst all this, there’s burning in the empty chest. Another question — what happened on September 19? How, why? I don’t know where there is peace, but I don’t feel like breathing until I get this answer.”
Zubeen’s short but heartfelt note, written in Assamese and signed “Love, Zubeen Da,” reads:
“Wait, wait a little — my new film is coming. Do come and watch it.”
What was meant as a cheerful invitation has now become an emotional farewell — a reminder of an artist who lived for his fans till his very last day.
“The Biggest Responsibility of Our Lives” — Director Rajesh Bhuyan on Roi Roi Binale
The film’s director, Rajesh Bhuyan, who worked closely with Zubeen on Roi Roi Binale, described the project as “the biggest responsibility of our lives.”
Speaking to NDTV, Bhuyan said,
“This was Zubeen’s last project and we are going to release the film. Zubeen left us at the last moment. It is a very difficult time. This was his dream and we may not be able to do 100%, but we will do whatever we can.”
In Roi Roi Binale, Zubeen plays the role of a visually challenged musician, a performance that now holds even more emotional weight for his fans and the Assamese film fraternity.
Unanswered Questions and Ongoing Investigation
Even as fans prepare to watch Zubeen’s final cinematic performance, questions surrounding his death continue to haunt his loved ones.
Garima Garg has repeatedly called for clarity on what exactly happened on that fateful day in Singapore.
In an earlier interview with NDTV, she said,
“We have to know what exactly happened. They should be questioned. The investigation is on, and the law will take its own course. We all should cooperate.”
Zubeen reportedly died while swimming off an island in Singapore, just hours before he was set to perform at the North East India Festival. His sudden passing shocked the nation, triggering an outpouring of grief and calls for justice.
A Legacy That Lives On
Over a career spanning more than three decades, Zubeen Garg recorded songs in over 40 languages and dialects, becoming a cultural icon not just in Assam but across India.
Now, his final film Roi Roi Binale is set for a nationwide release across 50 locations, including 31 major metropolitan cities — a tribute to a man whose voice transcended boundaries and generations.
Even in death, Zubeen’s words, music, and spirit continue to inspire millions — his final note now echoing as both an invitation and a farewell.
