Lahore [Pakistan]: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, has announced that the much-anticipated Gaddafi Stadium will be officially inaugurated on February 7, 2025. This marks the commencement of preparations for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will be held in Pakistan.
Inauguration & Renovation Updates
Naqvi addressed the media at Gaddafi Stadium, confirming that the stadium’s renovation work is in its final stages. The stadium, which had been undergoing significant renovation since September 2024, is expected to be fully ready by February 7.
Naqvi stated:
“The Gaddafi Stadium will be inaugurated on February 7 by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. It is in its final stages, and the last touches are being applied. We promised it would be ready by the end of January, and we are almost there.”
Renovation in Karachi
Additionally, Naqvi confirmed that the renovation of Karachi Stadium is progressing on schedule, with its inauguration set for February 11, 2025, by President Asif Ali Zardari. The inauguration will coincide with the tri-series between Pakistan, South Africa, and New Zealand, hosted in Karachi.
Ceremony on February 16
The PCB will host a grand ceremony on February 16, ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Naqvi revealed that ICC Chairman Jay Shah and the heads of all participating cricket boards have been invited. The event will serve as a key milestone in welcoming international teams and officials to the tournament.
Facing Criticism, Working Towards a Seamless Tournament
Despite criticism about renovation delays and venue changes, Naqvi assured that Pakistan will provide world-class arrangements for the tournament.
“The PCB is working day and night to ensure a seamless tournament experience for all the teams. We will ensure the safety, security, and hospitality of all teams arriving for the Champions Trophy,” Naqvi added.
