NEW DELHI/BENGALURU: Fans of the epic action thriller Kantara Chapter 1 will soon be able to stream the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025 from the comfort of their homes. Amazon Prime Video has officially announced that the blockbuster, written, directed, and starring Rishab Shetty, will premiere globally on its platform on October 31st.
The rapid digital debut comes less than a month after its theatrical release on October 2nd, a short window that has generated strong reactions from movie enthusiasts.
When and Where to Watch the Prequel
The mystical saga, which serves as a prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara: A Legend, will be available exclusively on Prime Video starting October 31st.
The streaming giant confirmed the release on Monday, sharing a trailer of a pivotal scene featuring Rishab Shetty’s character, Berme, and his men preparing for a battle, alongside the caption: “Get ready to witness the LEGENDary adventure of BERME 🔥. #KantaraALegendChapter1OnPrime, October 31.”
The film will be released in the original Kannada language, along with dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam.
The Hindi Conundrum and Quick OTT Release
A noticeable omission from the initial OTT release announcement is the Hindi dubbed version, which was a significant contributor to the original Kantara‘s pan-Indian success. Fans immediately flooded social media with comments, urging the platform to include the Hindi track, with one user noting, “Hindi laoge to hi Hit review aayenge” (You’ll have a hit on your hands only if you release in Hindi).
The quick switch from the big screen to streaming—less than 30 days—has also become a talking point. Given the film’s spectacular run, some fans questioned the decision, with comments like, “2nd October theater release and 31st October OTT release? So much fast.” The film is still drawing crowds in theaters, prompting some users to suggest delaying the digital premiere to allow for a longer theatrical run.
A Story of Roots, Faith, and Records
Kantara Chapter 1 delves into the origin story of the divine legends of Panjuluri Daiva, Guliga, and Chavundi, setting the narrative during the era of the Kadamba dynasty. It is produced by Hombale Films, the banner behind the original Kantara and the K.G.F. franchise.
The film has broken box office records, officially becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025 by surpassing the reported worldwide gross of Chhaava ($807 crore). Kantara Chapter 1 is reported to have collected approximately $813 crore globally in its first 25 days of release.
Rishab Shetty, who returns to his role as writer, director, and lead actor, described the film’s essence in a press release: “Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 is a story deeply embedded in our soil, celebrating the sacred bond between man, nature, and faith. Every ritual, emotion, and moment in the film draws from lived culture and real traditions.”
He expressed his excitement for the digital launch, stating, “I’m thrilled that Prime Video will take this story beyond borders, allowing viewers everywhere to experience the spirit, mystery, and divinity of Kantara’s world in its purest form.”
Interestingly, the film is also scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release of its English-dubbed version on the very same day, October 31st. The film also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram in key roles.
