The internal strife within Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family appears to be escalating following the RJD’s heavy defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections. Just a day after Rohini Acharya’s explosive public outburst and her announcement of distancing herself from the family, four more daughters of the RJD chief — Rajlakshmi, Ragini, Hema, and Chanda — quietly left the family’s Patna residence with their children and travelled to Delhi.
According to video footage Rajlakshmi, Ragini and Chanda Yadav were seen departing for Delhi with their families. Hema Yadav was also headed to the national capital. Sources quoted by India Today revealed that the daughters were deeply unsettled by the developments of the past two days.
This mass departure comes at a time when the Rashtriya Janata Dal is already grappling with a political setback, its seat tally plunging from 75 to around 25 in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly polls. The combination of electoral defeat and internal discord has intensified the pressure on the party.
How the turmoil began
The crisis was triggered when Rohini Acharya, Lalu Prasad’s Singapore-based daughter, publicly announced that she was quitting politics and severing ties with the family. In her posts, she alleged she had faced “filthy abuses” and claimed someone attempted to hit her with a slipper during an argument involving two close aides of Tejashwi Yadav — Sanjay Yadav, now an RJD Rajya Sabha MP, and his long-time associate Rameez.
As tensions escalate, the Yadav family — one of Bihar’s most influential political dynasties — appears to be confronting one of its most turbulent phases in recent years.
