Vijayawada, July 11: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Andhra Pradesh Government has formally summoned former Rajya Sabha MP Vemubaka Vijayasai Reddy to appear as a witness on July 12, as part of an ongoing probe into a major corruption case.
🔹 Details of the Notice
- Issued on July 10, 2025, under Section 179 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 (formerly Section 160 of CrPC).
- Reddy has been called as someone “acquainted with the facts and circumstances” of Criminal Case No. 21/2024.
Allegations under investigation include:
- Section 409 IPC – Criminal breach of trust
- Section 420 IPC – Cheating
- Section 120-B IPC – Criminal conspiracy
- Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 violations
🔹 Linked Case: Kakinada Port Controversy
This isn’t Reddy’s first legal entanglement this year. On March 11, the Andhra Pradesh CID summoned him in the Kakinada Port and SEZ case, involving:
- Allegations of coercion and extortion
- Alleged illegal acquisition of Rs 3,600 crore worth of shares
- Charges under Sections 506, 384, 420, 109, 467, 120(B), and 34 of BNS
Reddy, at the time, denied involvement, instead alleging the possible role of Vikrant Reddy, son of YSRCP MP YV Subba Reddy.
🔹 Reddy’s Political Exit
- Announced retirement: January 24, 2025
- Resigned from Rajya Sabha: January 25, 2025
- Cited personal reasons, said he would focus on agriculture
- Described his tenure as “sincere, tireless, and uncompromising”
- Played key roles as:
- YSRCP floor leader in Rajya Sabha
- National general secretary of YSRCP
- Liaison between Centre and State
