Bengaluru: A former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) employee has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife by strangling her with a towel at their residence in South Bengaluru.
According to officials, 65-year-old Nageshwar Rao, who lived at The Virtuoso apartment complex in the Bommanahalli area, attacked his wife Sandya Sri on Wednesday. Police said Rao was undergoing treatment for depression and had expressed suicidal thoughts.
Investigators revealed that after killing his wife, Rao remained inside the house and later contacted an acquaintance, who informed the police around 11 am. A police team subsequently arrived at the scene and took him into custody.
Police Statement
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield) Saidulu Adavath said preliminary investigations suggest mental health issues played a role in the incident.
“He was reportedly undergoing treatment for depression and was distressed. He allegedly intended to take his life after the incident, which is why he attacked his wife. There appear to be no other major reasons,” the DCP said, as quoted by PTI.
Family Informed
Officials confirmed that the couple’s daughter, who lives in the United States, has been informed about the tragic incident. Further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading up to the murder.
